DMLHS: Why change? Why now?

If we are to live up to our values as a community and our commitment to all learners as outlined in our mission and vision, we must reflect on the impact that a name can have on the historically underrepresented through the lens of history.

The name Thomas Jefferson no longer reflects our community. Nor does it instill pride in the great city of Dallas and the communities of Northwest Dallas. With the recent passing of music icon and esteemed alumnus of our school, Michael "Meat Loaf" Aday, the time for change is now.

At the same time, we understand the importance of maintaining a connection to our school's rich history and those who graced our hallways before us. So, we are proposing that the refreshed Dallas Meat Loaf High School retain the Patriots mascot. Those who had the honor of getting to know Meat Loaf Aday learned quickly that the three great passions of his life were music, ketchup-glazed meatloaf, and America.
